Birthday Weekends

The start of many birthday celebrations! Been spending my weekends catching up with old friends & family, it seems like time is never enough. Anyway, for Mother's day, we brought mum to Gardens by the Bay for the tulip festival and lunch. Thank god we were there early, because by the time we finished touring the 2 domes, there was such a long queue waiting to purchase their tickets. And the best thing about the flower domes, was that it was fully air-conditioned! Made it really enjoyable to view the flowers, and to enjoy the slow walk.(p/s: imagine having to do all these under the scotching sun!)

Another weekend was spent celebrating the gf's birthday!! Laksa steamboat at Harbourfront, followed my MJ session at my place. That lucky girl won every single chip of mine! By the last game, my drawer was completely empty.
It was my first time trying out Laksa steamboat, and it turned out pretty well. The soup base was tasty, perfect sauce for rice. And the good thing was that it was a ala-carte steamboat, not those buffet style. So in a way, the food served was less junky. Unlike those steamboat places in Bugis, this is less dirty, and more enjoyable. It is air-conditioned by the way! And for those looking to give it a try, remember to order the deep-fried beancurd skin. Best cooked with the lasksa base!

But of course, 1 celebration is never enough for the bestie! We met up the following weekend for a mini celebration! Dinner was at Sun with Moon, Wheelock Place.

We over-ordered again (as usual). Having to indulge so much over the weekend is so sinful! Now I have to work even harder at the gym.

This little guy very proud of his own bento set.

My favourite photo of the night. <3

Then for the 3rd weekend in May, we had Daddy's birthday celebration at Li Bai, Sheraton Towers.

Last minute recommendations from Marcus and Yelly, we decided to try out this restaurant. I remembered the wrong dishes, so we ended up ordering the wrong items.

A very light and simple noodle dish, my favourite though I was too full to enjoy it.

 Dad's birthday cake

After several attempts to try out this red velvet cake from Sadie Rose, I manage to place my order for Dad's birthday. Amanda from Sadie Rose was really nice to rush out my order despite a 5 day advance order. The presentation of the cake was really nice, but taste was otherwise.
I was expecting cream cheese frosting for a red velvet cake, but the cream turned out to be just ordinary whipped cream. Gave it a whole mushy feeling to the cake, making it very unappealing. Also, the taste of the red velvet was below my expectation. It was not dense and moist as I hoped for. Then again, sometimes, you pay more for presentation than taste. It was priced at $42 for a 6" cake with rose frosting details, self collection. I would probably opt for Pine Garden's cake the next time, given the distance I have to travel. Anyway, it was a experience. You never try you never know!

The love of a family is life's greatest blessing.

Of many weekends

Gosh, time has been passing by so quickly, it's almost mid-year! Sometimes, I just wish for time to stay still.
Anyways, I was away in KL for a short weekend - stuffed with lots of good food! We were perpetually eating every 2hours. I am pretty sure I gained at least 2kgs.

On our 2nd day in KL, Yang spent a whole day at Kidszania with Yelly and Marcus, while sister and I spent the day shopping.
So in Kidszania, they have got this really interesting concept of role-playing for kids, and earning money to pay for things they want to buy! Apparently, the fake money cannot be bought and must be earned! Hello, no short cut here! :P They have 2 slots: 10am-3pm, and 4pm-9pm. It was so crowded the Saturday morning we were there. Btw, they are setting up a Kidszania centre here in Singapore, due to open in 2015. So for parents who are not in the hurry, you can wait for the one in Singapore to open its doors.

We were all starving after a busy morning (shopping and walking around), so we headed to One Utama for really cheap sushi!! Did I mention delicious to??
Girls being girls, we had to do some shopping before dinner. Skipping the very delicious dinner part, desert was Prata!! Extremely long, crispy, delicious tissue prata to be exact! And for the first time, we almost finished it up. Well done team!!

Our morning started out at 8am, when we dragged ourselves outta bed for a swim (PS: we only slept ard 3am the night before). Even Yang got out of bed when he heard we were going swimming! Lovely pool with 2 different slides for kids and adults. We had a good exercise before heading out for breakfast/lunch at The Village Nasi Lemak!! Totally dig it! The guys had 3 plates of rice each, and we ended lunch with Ice Milo Dinosaurs for desert!

That's Milo Dinosaurs - Ice milo drink topped with extra milo!!

And my weekend back in Singapore, was a "food-filling" one! Sisters and I wanted to go window-shopping, but less than 1hour into walking, we ended up at Jones, the grocer.
