Hong Kong - favourite food places

Sorry for MIA-ing. Been so busy stuffing myself with food and fun, I also forgot to blog! Anyway, was away  in Hong Kong for the weekend. Had a great trip eating lots of dim sum, steamboat and deserts. Hong Kong is definitely my favourite place to fatten up!haha..

So, to start with the few parts of my HK trip is My Favourite Food Places!

小肥羊 - Xiao Fei Yang Steam Boat Restaurant

2/F, Causeway Bay Plaza 2, 463-483 Lockhart Road, Causeway Bay
銅鑼灣駱克道463-483號銅鑼灣廣場二期2

We chose the yin-yang pot, which comes with 2 types of broth. Hot & Spicy, and the Herbal Soup base.

 My lovely people!

Happy after a hearty dinner!

Try spotting for the bright neon signboard outside the building. You would need to go up 2 escalators to the restaurant. On the way up, you should see HSBC. Couldn't find my white building, so we ended up walking in circles for almost 20 minutes. Felt so bad, because we were all tired and hungry. Sorry my people, my bad!
Anyway, my favourite was their hand-made noodles. It tasted like the Korea rice cake, but in a Fettuccine form (aka kway teow). In its rare form it is white, and it turns transparent when cooked. However, try not to leave it in for more than 5 minutes. The funny thing about this noodles is that even though it looks white while in the soup, the moment you take it out, it turns transparent! So, my advise is to keep a look at the edges of the noodles. Once it looks transparent, dish it out, because it should be ready! This restaurant is famous for its lamb, so for all lamb lovers, it's a must try! Also, try the beef slices if you have the chance. The other dishes I would recommend is the fish paste. It's chewy and very tasty!
Next up, desert! We walked a short distance to 五代同糖 for the desert we(sister & I) ahve been craving for months!

五代同糖 - Wu Dai Tong Tang

Shop G11, Elizabeth House, 250-254 Gloucester Road, Causeway Bay
銅鑼灣告士打道250-254號伊利莎伯大廈G11

Must go place in Hong Kong for their desert! They play very hip canto pop too!haha

Mango & Pomelo in Coconut Sauce. I like how refreshing it is.

Mango Pancake. Slices of mango with cream, wrapped in a thin crepe pastry. Cold lovely dish to share.

What we had for desert that night.

My all-time favourite! Creme Brulee. Must try must try!

Besties with their refreshing strawberry snow ice.

Happy with his own choice of desert!

You cannot leave this place without trying this. Chocolate lava cake. Soooo good and yummy! Served warm with ice-cream. Look at how generous they are with the chocolate sauce.
The AWWW moment when the chocloate sauce oozed out.

 Happy People!
Everything is so good there, I don't think 1 night is enough. Was also tempted to doing a take-away for my mid-night supper!

Free Wifi!
We should have this in Singapore too. Almost every spot in HK is wifi-enabled. That means I can check my email, update photos and no worry about my HP bill exploding!

Causeway Bay we love you!

Dim Sum for breakfast at Cheers Restaurant. Our favourite place.

Cheers Restaurant

5/F Windsor House, 311 Gloucester Road, Causeway Bay

Queue at 8am in the morning!

Got our ticket, now wait for our table!

  Finally dim sum again!
  Lovely clean environment
Our usual dishes like carrot cake, fried beancurd rolls, cheong fan, pork buns, and century egg porridge.

Too much for 7 person! After 3 days of figuring out the right portion for dim sum, we now know, 1 person have an average of 3  of dim sums. So people, do not OTT!

Jumbo 虾饺, you will never get in Singapore. The skin is so QQ one!

 Siew Mai.

Char Sao Sou. The pastry is so sweet and flaky. And the best thing, it's served warm!

Must have desert for dim sum - custard buns! Really good.
Very happy & satisfied people! A good breakfast makes a good day! Sister comfortably dressed in our upcoming Alvila top! So comfy you can wear it anywhere!!

We tried the outlet at Mongkok instead of Causeway Bay because we have been travelling too much too often to Causeway. Lucky us, it is the Mooncake Festival now, so they had really yummy mooncakes for sales. The besties and their parents each bought 3 boxes back to Singapore!

Also, when in Hong Kong, you must go for Japanese food. Outlets in Itachio, Ootoya has much more varieties and are much yummy tasting than those we have in Singapore. Try Genki sushi too. The last time I was there, we tried the one in Causeway Bay, and it was heaven! The rice was warm, the seaweed was crispy, it was really goood.
They insisted that they are not leaving Hong Kong without any good Japanese meal, and they got it!

Assorted Salmon Sushi from Ootoya. It was really yummy. We each had a bento set, and we cleaned out bowls out! Rice was soft and yummy.

Juicy waygu beef sushi from Itachio. The juicy fats flowing in your mouth. Aww. So yummy!

They can have this forever.

It would be good to go to the airport at least 3hours earlier, so you can do your shopping and dining there! They have an Itachio outlet at T2, and we had a really good and worthy meal there. For people looking to buy goodies, try getting them from the airport. They have the regular famous shops like Ichiban, Wing Wah, Kee Wah. So get your pastries from the Airport, rather than carrying them all the way from the city. Unless you are telling me, you have nothing in your bag! haha....

Til my next post on Ocean Park and more of Hong Kong...

Weekend in Kuala Lumpur

Loh sisters very first overseas trip! 5 of us were at Kuala Lumpur for the weekend, helping the 2nd sister with her wedding preparations. Flew off n Friday evening, arriving KL just in time for a very late dinner. CL and his family were really nice to wait for us for dinner at 10pm. They brought us for Pumpkin Porridge steamboat. Sorry no food photos cause we were starving, but a photo of the place, in case any of you are going to KL and are interested in having it.

They also serve Chinese Zi Char dishes along with the steamboat. We had really yummy pork belly meat, salted egg yolk crabs, and sliced pumpkin coated with salted egg yolk!
The pumpkin slices were fried with curry leaves and were really soft and tasty with the coat of egg yolk. A must-try!

What we had for breakfast the next day

Sister specially ordered a chocolate cake for us, knowing we are all have a sweet-tooth. This is a chocolate cake from Pastry Union. I really liked how light and fluffy the whole cake tasted. Also, the design of her cakes are very clean and simple. No fancy decorations or bright bold colours, just very simple and few small pieces of nuts etc. What we had was the "Garden Cake":

Garden was inspired by the poetic
re-emergence of life after a particularly heavy storm. Lush chocolate cream with cranberries coats the chunks of chocolate
sponge. Amidst this, fresh wholesome nuts emerge and dot the landscape.

One can almost already feel the wafts of petrichor.

Lovingly made from:
Chunks of chocolate sponge with cranberries-infused chantilly cream; sprinkled toasted nuts for a wholesome, crunchy bite.

Keep chilled during storage and consume within three days. Before serving, leave it at room temperature for a moment to soften the cake.
Price:

RM78 nett (700g), good for 6-8ppl

RM148 nett (1.4kg), good for 12-16ppl

Pretty pricey for a cake in Malaysia, though after conversion, this cake is really good value in SG dollars. Honestly, you will not be able to find such tasty and good quality cake for ~S$32 in Singapore. It was so good, I had 2 slices every morning! :P

After breakfast, we headed over to One Utama Hotel, to take a look at the wedding venue. Coincidentally, there was a Malay wedding going on, and we manage to snap afew photos. Its amazing how creative this wedding is.

At the entrance, beautifully decorated with green hedges and white roses & chrysanthemums

Fully decorated dining hall.

Full length white cloth covering the whole dining hall. Just stunning.

Leng & Min Hui.

Lovely table piece on the VIP table.

Extravagantly decorated centre stage

Me in my current favourite Alvila top. It's so silky smooth and comfortable. I can easily match it with a pair of shorts, jeans or even skirt. Love how vibrant the colour it, away from the monotone black & white.

After enduring the viewing session, we headed over for dim sum. Yummy custard buns!

Just remembered. Less than 2 weeks to HK getaway! Dim Sums here I come!!!

Next up, wedding gown hunting! Valerie Fan was really patient with us. Almost 3hours of trying on gowns and gossiping. Ha..So glad we found a really beautiful piece, the moment the sister came out from the changing room, and Valerie put on her veil, we all in the room knew that was the one! Can't wait for her wedding shoot, and all the photos!

Second day of our short trip was free & easy. CL's parents wanted to bring us for Pork Knuckle, but we kids were not up til 10am. If you were thinking that 10am was early, you were wrong! Apparently, people do wake up very early for good food, and these pork knuckles apparently are sold out by 10am some times!
So, we went for Nasi Lemak instead. Super yummy! Tried googling for this place, Village Nasi Lemak, and it was indeed as popular online as it was in the real world. We were there at around lunch time, and there was a ridiculous long queue and tables were full. We manage to get a table quite quickly. Rice was so tasty and fragrant. The fried chicken was their popular dish, so must try. Food was overall very yummy, but also very expensive. The rice served was a ok serve for us girls, meaning it would be a little less for the guys. It would cost an average of $10-15/person for a comfortable portion.

After lunch, we headed to Bangsa Village for alittle shopping and tea with our KL relatives. We had a baby to play with for the whole session, so all the sisters were busy entertaining him. Presenting to you:

Baby Issac!

Tea Break at Botanical, Bangsa Village

We had a 6pm bus to catch, so we didn't have much time for shopping after that. Didn't manage to catch much sleep during the ride home, and there was a massive jam 1/2 way through so we only got home around 1am. Was a walking zombie the next day at work. But then, I am glad we 5 sisters had this lovely weekend together. It was a nice bonding time, and lots and lots of food!! To all the skinny people out there, go to KL for a weekend if you need to fatten up. Trust me, you will!
